What materials should be used to manufacture orthopedic insoles?

The type of material used to design an orthopedic insole, whether classic or thermoformed, depends on the performance or comfort required for the patient.
Capron Podologie offers several types of materials with complementary properties:
- EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate): these foams, a leading material in podiatry, are manufactured by expansion in molds and are known for their high elasticity, low persistence, and resistance to compression and abrasion. Split into different thicknesses and available in different densities (Shore A), they can be precisely adapted to the patient's needs for bases, reinforcement, or covering.
- PE (polyolefin retiled): available in a wide range of densities and hardnesses, these low-elasticity, medium-remanence foams are highly stable and can be heated to fairly high temperatures. They are particularly suitable for coverings or for patients seeking increased comfort in everyday life.
- Resins: non-flowing resins provide great flexibility and elasticity for creating bases that are resistant to repeated bending without risk of breakage. With a higher flow index, resins become unsticky for creating reinforcements that offer optimal stability and reinforced support, ideal for significant postural corrections or athletes.
- Dual-density plates: a combination of two complementary materials for the perfect balance between cushioning, support, and durability.
Each material is available in different thicknesses and hardnesses, measured in Shore, in order to precisely adapt the mechanical response of the sole to the clinical indication.

How to choose the right material for your insoles?

The choice of materials used to manufacture orthopedic insoles depends on several clinical and practical criteria, depending on the targeted pathology, the patient's activity, or the level of correction required.
Rigid, thin materials are used to make the bases of foot orthotics: thicker materials are used to provide reinforcement. More flexible materials distribute pressure and provide comfort and protection.
