The Bien-Air MC2-GTIR micromotor (part no. 18020) is the internal spray version of the MC2-GT, designed for podiatrists who regularly treat conditions requiring active cooling of the drilling area. Its “IR” suffix stands for internal irrigation: the spray flows through the micromotor’s internal circuit to reach the handpiece and bur directly.

Internal spray (IR): direct cooling of the milling area

In a spray-less micromotor (AV type), the bur is cooled solely by compressed air flowing around the handpiece. In the MC2-GTIR, the water spray flows through the micromotor body via a dedicated internal circuit and reaches the handpiece directly. This internal circuit ensures precise water delivery, centered on the work area, without unwanted spray on the rest of the foot or adjacent areas.

The internal spray requires an O-ring to maintain the circuit’s seal (available from Capron Podologie). This O-ring is the primary maintenance component to monitor to ensure the spray’s long-term performance.

MC2-GTIR or MC2-IR: Which one should you choose?

The difference between the MC2-GTIR and the MC2-IR lies in the handpiece mounting: GT (high-speed) for the GTIR, standard mounting for the IR. The choice depends on the handpieces already in use at the practice. If the practice is equipped with GT-type milling heads, the MC2-GTIR can be integrated without any equipment changes.
